Our last show of the year is very fitting in my opinion, the Gathering of the Clans at the Scottish Antiques and Arts Centre, Doune, where all the MG clubs in Scotland group together to show solidarity, held on Sunday 25th September 2022.
I ended up joining the GOTC committee as the event loomed and took on the task of re-organising the overall site plan to try and make the layout of the cars look less ‘Tesco car park’ style. This new plan seemed to go down well this year, so should form a template for the future.
I also had responsibility for organising our stand, my first time doing this, so we had agreed beforehand to get out the rarely used Caledonian Centre flags, which were great for presence due to their height, and use our register flags and banners (635, Zed and MGFun) for the first time this year.
The stand looked very good and we had more cars entered this year than last, which is encouraging. With some late call-offs (illnesses, etc) we had 22 cars on the day, with a wide range of MGs, from a 1955 Magnette to a 2016 MG3. There were also several MG Car Club members showing cars in amongst the other club stands, choosing to group with other friends and/or car types, which was great to see, and yes we did all say hello and chat to each other!
In terms of the overall show, there were cars ranging from 1930s to present day. Arnold Clark Stirling presented new ZS EV, HS and 3 on show with some giveaways, choosing not to bring the well acclaimed new MG4 EV as both of the cars they have at the moment (only just been delivered) are sold!
Chic Doig were present, along with tombola and raffle stands, pizza stand (for those very hungry), the magnificent pipe band doing the rounds regularly and later in the afternoon three ‘Moggies’ arrived to join us as they had been on a Morris Minor run and wanted to join us, with Morris being related to MG of course!
There was always the opportunity to browse, and possible purchase from, the Scottish Antiques and Arts Centre and/or enjoy their refreshments from the café.
A very good day in all to mark the end to show season, just the October One Day run in Fife and Perthshire to go before the end of season lunch in November.
