Friday
….Once again we were back at our usual stand site on the hill. On arrival it was great to see that our phantom grass cutter (aka Glenn Neilson) had been busy with his mower a couple of days earlier preparing our stand space – many thanks to Glenn, it was much appreciated! The club equipment trailer duly arrived at 5pm as arranged, and many thanks to brother-in-law Richard Finch for stepping in to undertake towing duties at late notice. The marquees were set up just in time to nip back to our B&B for a quick change of clothes, before dinner at Armstrong’s. We were hopeful that the glorious weather would continue over the weekend.
Saturday
….Clear blue sky again today, with the forecast predicting a possible 24°C. Saturday is usually the more relaxed day of the two, just 12 cars expected, two Midgets, three MGBs, two RV8s, four F/TFs and a ZS, all the cars arranged in our usual chevron fashion, but spread out to make best use of the stand space. During the day we were kept quite busy with many visitors, more non-members than members, with some six membership forms given out to prospective new members. All in all a good day, with the temperature rising higher than the predicted 24 degrees.
Sunday
….A much earlier start today, as we needed to be on the stand before 8am, and the forecast was again for temperatures in the mid-twenties. We were expecting 26 cars, and as usual Dave “Dundee” Christison had arrived before us, greeting us with his usual comment: “Coffee on yet?”. In the end, due to various reasons, we had 23 cars, one Midget, one early TF, six MGBs, two RV8s, one ZS, and 12 F/TFs, again arranged in a chevron pattern, F/TFs to one side, all other MGs on the other. With the sun glinting off the highly polished cars, very attractive it looked, and once again there was much interest and comment on the standard of our stand.
….We had three awards to present on the day, the winners being LeeAnn Hume, awarded the Bill and Merlyn Smith Glamis Trophy, for the best F/TF, Billy Wait, awarded an engraved tankard for the Best Other MG for his RV8, and Mervyn Gillespie awarded a cut glass bowl for the Furthest Travelled to the Show, at 221 miles. In addition, Dave Christison was presented with a signed card and a bottle of his favourite tipple in celebration of his 70th birthday.
….It was a great Show and weekend, with brilliant weather and excellent company. Sincere thanks go to all who helped set up on the Friday, displayed their cars over the weekend and assisted in packing up at the end. Also our thanks to Rod for getting the trailer to the SVVC secure compound, where it awaited return to Cleghorn the following Saturday, with thanks again to Richard for towing.
